Vocation Statement

instructions

General Order

Pre-work:

Watch 20 minute video.

In-session

1:30-2 hours of group discussion, self-reflection, prayer, and time to form your vocation statement.

Video:

Please watch the 20-minute video on Vocation Statements together in preparation for time with your team.

Group Discussion:

One Word Whip:

Go around the room and have each person say one word (or phrase) as a response to Tod’s talk (intentionally, we suggest not having a large discussion before the reflection time so staff can spend time listening to what the Lord is speaking directly to them).

Reiterate the “Why” Tod Addressed:

This is not some problem we each need to solve, but rather a hope that we all would be reminded and grounded in that reality that we are loved by God.

You are being given space and time to explore your individual vocations as a response to how deeply God has already called you and loves you. Your vocation is a response to that love. You’ve experienced his love personally and therefore want to express it personally through_______.

Reflection/Workshop:

Personal Reflection/Solitude: After the video and group share, send your staff out into solitude to write their own Vocation Statements.

Please print off this Vocation Statement Worksheet for each of your staff to take with them. We recommend 1 hour minimum.

Consider going through this worksheet prior to this session and sharing YOUR Vocation Statement after the video as an example before sending staff into solitude. See other examples here.

Staff Sharing:

To conclude the series, we would like for you to have a final gathering where each staff person shares his/her vocation statement. This could be done within departments, or as an entire team. We suggest giving people a few days after the solitude time to process and then come together and share statements to conclude the series.

Prayer:

Conclude with giving God thanks for His personal love for each person and how He has distinctively called each of us to use our unique gifts for the sake of His ultimate purpose in the world.

Close with repeating Tod’s benediction:

Remember, wherever you find yourself. Whatever failures are behind you, whatever challenges are in front of you, remember you are, right now, right in the middle of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are surrounded by the Love of God that sent him and you are filled by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit as together we love and serve the Lord.
